64 Audio Volür IEM Review

A Sonic Journey Beyond Boundaries.

Disclaimer: "64 Audio" "Zur Trade" Distributor graciously provided the Volür for this review.

In the realm of audio excellence, 64 Audio has once again pushed the boundaries with its latest creation, the Volür universal IEM. Priced at $2,499, the Volür emerges as a true successor to the acclaimed Nio, boasting a hybrid 10-driver configuration that promises to redefine the listening experience.

Design and Construction: Masterful Craftsmanship

Crafted with precision, the Volür showcases 64 Audio's commitment to impeccable build quality. The aluminum shells, adorned with a captivating blue/purple abalone faceplate, exude elegance. The CNC work is flawless, and the attention to detail is evident in every aspect, from the sleek chamfer on the faceplate to the dreamy purple abalone chip paying homage to the Nio.

The comfort level of the Volür is noteworthy, allowing extended listening sessions without any discomfort. The all-black design, coupled with the red opening for dynamic drivers, enhances the visual appeal. The 2-pin connector ensures compatibility with aftermarket cables, offering users the flexibility to customize their listening experience further.

Technology Unleashed - True Isobaric and Innovative Driver Setup:

True Isobaric Configuration

At the heart of the Volür lies a groundbreaking True Isobaric Configuration, featuring two custom 9mm dynamic drivers. This design, utilizing an acoustically inert coupling chamber, results in lower distortion, improved damping, and extended low-frequency response.

Isobaric Driver Configuration:

  • Two drivers are connected by an acoustically inert coupling chamber.

  • One diaphragm is fully sealed off, and only the other contributes to sound pressure.

  • This setup aims to achieve better damping, lower distortion, increased power handling (due to two coils and two motor structures), and extended low-frequency (LF) response.

Series Wiring:

  • The iso-group is wired in series, which affects the overall impedance and electrical characteristics of the drivers.

New 9mm Dynamic Driver:

  • The dynamic driver has a diameter of 9mm.

  • It features an upgraded n54 magnet, which likely contributes to improved magnetic strength and efficiency.

  • The diaphragm is made of 25μm PU/115°C + 19μm Ti Cone, possibly enhancing sensitivity and durability.

Acoustic Low-Pass Filter:

  • A high-precision textile mesh acoustic low-pass filter is employed.

  • This filter was originally developed for Fourté Blanc, suggesting a high-quality and refined sound tuning.

The 10-driver setup includes:

Two dynamic drivers for Lows;

Six balanced armature drivers for Mids;

One balanced armature driver for High-Mids;

A single tia driver for highs;

(The tia driver now uses a new technology to further shape the tuning and direct the sound to your eardrums.)

The integration of proprietary technologies such as Apex, LID, and tia demonstrates 64 Audio's commitment to pushing the technological envelope.

*The tia waveguide, a standout feature, enhances high-frequency performance, providing greater tuning control and increased clarity. The direct-radiating tia high-driver is fitted with a new tia waveguide to increase the efficiency and general amplitude of the HF band. To refine this HF response, special diffusion windows were integrated into the front and side of the waveguide. The tia waveguide also serves as a mounting mechanism, mating to the mid-driver housing, offering exact driver positioning during manufacturing.

Tubeless In-Ear Audio is a patented IEM design methodology that aims to reduce unwanted resonance and distortion for a transparent and lifelike sound signature. The tia system consists of three major elements: open-balanced armature tia drivers, the tia single-bore design, and tia acoustic chambers.

Volür features two major elements of the tia system: the tia driver and the tia single-bore design.

Air Pressure Exchange is a patented vent that releases air pressure in a sealed ear canal all while retaining standard IEM levels of isolation, enabling musicians and music enthusiasts to listen more comfortably for longer. This venting alleviates listener fatigue and allows for a much more realistic soundstage.

Apex comes in four module variations for Volür: mX, *m12, m15, and m20. While it looks similar to many of the 64 Audio UIEMs, the internal construction of the Apex system is redesigned to maximize space for the LF bore incorporated into the mid-driver housing!

Linear Impedance Design (LID) is a patented circuit that corrects the non-linear electrical resistance of the multiple driver sets comprising this 10-driver IEM. Varying source amplifier output impedance in devices like smartphones, body packs, DAC/amps, and DAPs typically results in varying frequency response, depending on the increase in resistance. Restoring proper interaction with the source and preserving the desired sound signature enables a consistent reliable sound.

Sonic Brilliance: A Symphony of Bass and Clarity

The Volür's sonic signature is a harmonious blend of powerful lows, open mid-range, inoffensive treble, and a wide, airy soundstage.

The isobaric low drivers, coupled with the M15 Apex module, deliver a bass-forward experience that is fast, impactful, and dynamic. The resolution and texture in the lows are outstanding, creating a realistic and lifelike bass presentation.

Mids are open and smooth, and carry a natural character, showcasing excellent body and shape for each instrument. The resolution and layering in the mids allow for the extraction of the finest nuances, providing a detailed and precise listening experience. The Volür 's technical abilities shine through with exceptional resolution and detailing, offering an immersive audio journey.

The highs, propelled by the tia treble, contribute to the sense of space, with detailed, precise, and fast delivery.

The different Apex modules allow users to tailor the sound to their preferences, from a bass-heavy signature to a more neutral presentation.
